The Echoplex performances on Normalized represent the culmination of a year's worth of utterly destroying my guitar loop style, and rebuilding it from scratch. The tracks on this page are the document of that period, as I developed a series of technical and conceptual tools based around one guitar, one Echoplex, one tube amp, and a resolute refusal to fall into ambient Frippertronic cliches. They're not nearly as sophisticated or highly evolved as the material on Normalized, but they provide a good indication of how I got to that point. This page is divided into two sections: the predominantly un-rhythmic and very abstract solos from December 2001 (using nothing but one Echoplex, running LoopIII, and the standard footpedal), and the tracks from April/May of 2002 (featuring the LoopIV software upgrade from that year, an expanded control interface via MIDI, and an newly groove-based approach). |
