SOUND ARCHIVE

the latest developments (2001-2002)

This page is the home for new, original, post-Disruption Theory material as it materializes:

"Turntablist Guitar" is my most recent work with live, unedited real-time looping. It reflects a much more rhythmically active approach than any of my previous looping, and the "coninuous mixes" in particular probably represent the best loop work I've done. Every sound on this material came strictly from an uneffected electric guitar and an Echoplex.

"Reports From The Lab" is a precursor to that work: a series of live, unedited solos performed with a guitar and an Echoplex, it's the sound of me trying to break out of some previously-held concepts about how guitar-loop music should be approached. Some of this material is very abstract, and it puts the focus on my electric guitar playing like never before. (For more information on this material, visit the Echoplex pages.)

The two studio tracks from February 2001 were recorded for a contact who asked if I could submit material for a compilation with the working title of "Psycho Blues," with a maximum allowable running time of 4:30. No, I'm not kidding.

"Psycho Blues" Studio Tracks (January/February 2001)

Total Running Time: 8 minutes and 53 seconds
Normalized
(4:27)
mp3 download
In a lot of ways, this track is everything that Disruption Theory is not. "Normalized" is a slow, languid, lyrical track with an almost song-like structure, and it clocks in under 4:30. Is this my big sellout tune? I sure hope so.
Minus Eight
(4:26)
mp3 download
The title refers to a DJ turntable setting that plays a record at a slower speed than normal. The track itself certainly has a slow-motion, swimming-through-jello quality to it, with call-and-response guitars and a ridiculously huge low end.
